Canon is verified facts (from the show, from the world). Buffy is the Slayer, NSA sold 2.4 million copies in one week.

Fanon is commonly accepted "facts" that aren't verified. Um. Lou is a pedophile is a kind of fanon - many of us get that creepy vibe from him and we write into stories. But he's never been convicted of anything and we have no evidence of it. Yet, it's accepted as a kind of "fact" because so many people believe. It's fanon that JC is a kinky sex kind of guy.
